Write your own assignment!
I am always looking for creative, new writing assignments that will both appeal to my students and help them grow as writers. SO...imagine you are me and have the ability to craft a brand new writing challenge for a bunch of incredibly talented and inquisitive--but busy--students. In your response comment, write the assignment as if you were going to distribute to the students.

Just like the subculture group, I think they should write about a group they are a part of. I know it is similar, but here are my reasons for why...
ReplyDeleteDescribe a group that you participate in. Describe the way the people act when just around each other. Describe the way this certain group of people make you feel and how they help you through everyday struggles. Describe when and how your group got formed and how long it has been together. I want to know everything about them and their personalities when they are together and how you feel when you spend time with them. I would like to know what you usually do when together and if the whole group gets together all the time. How often do you meet? Do you all go to the same school? Finally, describe what you see in the future for this particular group. What each person will be doing, if you will still be friends, or will you go your separate ways.
Imagine you are any fish, animal, shell, or other object underwater. Write a descriptive piece on a moment underwater. I think that this would be a fun descriptive/creative piece. It would be fun to write about something that we don't know very clearly. This would make us imagine a place as we want to be.
ReplyDeleteI think that like the papers that we wrote at the beginning of the year, there should be more personal creative peices. I think that nearing the end of the year when everyone is worn out and dreading each class there should be a creative personal writing assignment. This assignment would be fun and hopefully not to difficult to write. In this assignment a person should tell of a time when they felt the most happy/ at peace/ upset, any strong emotion that they want to portray. Throughout their paper they should describe everything in the memory and make the reader see, hear, taste, feel and smell everything that the writer did.
ReplyDeleteCome up with a fiction story that teaches a life lesson, WITHOUT stating the meaning of the story. Use descriptive words to express the dominant impression. Allow your readers to see, taste, smell, feel, and hear everything in the story. Show, don't tell. Make the lesson something that anyone can use in life. Come up with your own creative places, people, animals, etc. Make sure all of these things help guide the reader to learning something new.
ReplyDeleteNarrate where you will be in 20 years. I think this would be a really fun piece to be in the beginning of the year. The piece would need to contain descriptions of all 5 senses and it could not be written in first person. You'd have to write about the future you in third person. Itcould only be 500 words. You could choose to write a scene of your future life or describe what your future you is doing, where you are living, etc...
